HEPA air purifiers remove 99.97% of all airborne pollutants
HEPA air purifiers are designed to remove 99.97% of all airborne pollutants 0.3 microns or larger from
the air that passes through the filter. These airborne pollutants include tobacco smoke, household
dust, pollen, dust mites, and other allergens.
By removing airborne pollutants, HEPA air purifiers provide a great benefit
for people suffering from asthma or allergies. Once these air pollutants are captured by the HEPA
air purifiers, they are not released back into the air again.
History of HEPA air purifiers
Originally developed by the Atomic Energy Commission during the World War II, HEPA air filters
were designed for effective containment of radioactive aerosols. At first HEPA air purifiers were called
"superimpingement" or "superinterception" filters. Later they were referred to as "absolute" filters. Then
in 1960s, the specifications were standardized and called HEPA filters -
(High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter.
Today, HEPA air purifiers are applied to purify air in hospital and medical settings. In the
semiconductor industry where "clean room" is needed to manufacture the silicon chip, HEPA air purifiers
have been further developed to meet the "clean room"requirement.
With its proven ability to remove very tiny airborne pollutants from indoor air, HEPA air
purifiers are now made available to home and small office.
Drawback of HEPA air purifiers
Although HEPA air purifiers are very effective in removing air pollutants from your home or office,
study had shown that it may not be very effective if the area to be cleaned is too big for the capacity of
the HEPA air purifiers. One of the thing is the difficulty to draw the air from the far side of the room
to the hepa filters to be cleaned.
Other than that, HEPA air purifiers are very popular as home or office air filters.
